What to do if you have been un-successful in obtaining a place

You will receive a letter from the Local Authority if you are un-successful in obtaining a place for your child at Northampton Academy.

You are entitled to appeal that decision. Please see the section below.

You can also request that your child’s name is put onto our waiting list. Our waiting list for each year group is kept in order according to our over subscription criteria for admissions. The list is updated whenever the list is changed. You can choose to join the waiting list and also appeal for a place.


Admissions for Year 7 for September 2016

How to join the waiting list

After 1st March 2016, you can ask to join our waiting list. To do this, you need to contact our Admissions team by emailing admissions@northampton-academy.org or calling 01604 210025. You will need to provide the following details:

  • Child's legal name, date of birth, current primary school and home address.
  • Names of any siblings living at the same address who attend Northampton Academy.
  • Your name and contact details including day and evening telephone numbers.

How to appeal for a place

If you wish to appeal, please download the Northampton Academy Appeal Form available below and send the completed form in addressed to the ‘Clerk to the Governors’, c/o Northampton Academy, Wellingborough Road, Northampton NN3 8NH, by 4pm by 28th March 2016. If you are unable to access the form please contact our Admissions team on 01604 210025 between 9.00 am and 4.00 pm and you will be able to leave your contact details so that we can send a form by to you.

Appeals Process Timetable for entry into Year 7 (September 2016 entry)

This timetable applies to applications for students currently in year 6, who want to start year 7 in September 2016.

1st March 2016

National Secondary School Allocation Day – You will be sent a letter indicating which school you have been allocated.

22nd April 2016

Deadline for parents to lodge a written appeal – You must return the Appeals Form by 4 pm.

6th May 2016

Deadline for parents to be informed of the date when the appeals will be heard and the arrangements for the Independent Appeals Panel to hear the Appeal Hearing – You will be sent a letter telling you the arrangements for the appeal.

Deadline for the Academy to supply the Clerk of the Independent Appeals Panel with all the relevant documentation needed to conduct the Appeal Hearing.

20th May 2016

Deadline for the Clerk to send the appeal papers to the panel and relevant parties.

27th May 2016

Deadline for the parents and the Academy to submit any further evidence to the Clerk, that was not sent with the original appeal.

13th-17th June

Appeal Hearings will be held during this week.

1st July 2016

Deadline for decision letters to be sent by the Clerk to the parents. – You will be sent a letter telling you whether your appeal has been successful.

 

Appeals concerning Late Applications for Year 7

These are applications made before the start of Year 7, i.e. after 1st March 2016 but before 1st September 2016. Appeals for late applications will be heard wherever possible, within the main appeal dates of 13th-17th June 2016, or within 30 school days of the appeal being lodged.

Admissions for Year 7-Year 13 during 1st September 2015 – 31st August 2016

We follow the Northamptonshire Co-ordinated In-Year Admissions scheme so to apply for a place you need to fill in the Northamptonshire Admissions Form which is available on the Northamptonshire County Council website. You may also ask to be added to our waiting lists.

Appeals concerning In Year Admissions for Year 7 -13

These appeals concern applications for places in Year 7 made after the first day of the school term for Year 7 and places in all other year groups. You need to apply for a place and receive a letter from the Local Authority saying that you have not been successful in obtaining a place before you can lodge an appeal. Appeals for in-year applications will be heard within 30 school days of an appeal being lodged.

If you wish to appeal, please download the Northampton Academy Appeal Form available below and the Guidance Notes for Parents/Carers and send the completed form in addressed to the ‘Clerk to the Governors’, c/o Northampton Academy, Wellingborough Road, Northampton NN3 8NH, by 4pm on 28th March 2016. Further Appeals

If your appeal for a place is rejected, i.e. you are not awarded a place, you do not have the right to a second appeal during the same academic year, unless in exceptional circumstances the Academy accepts a second application for appeal due to a significant and material change in the circumstances of the parent, child or the Academy.
