Physical Education

Key Stage 3 Curriculum Summary

Our KS3 Physical Education and Health curriculum aims to bring out ‘The best in everyone’ by developing physically skilful young people, who have developed the skills, knowledge, understanding, character and confidence to prepare them for KS4 PE and to forge a positive lifelong relationship with physical activity and sport.

Our curriculum does not simply reflect and cover the National Curriculum, but exceeds these expectations even further by developing students’ character and leadership skills. All students are given opportunities to show their creative flair through a broad range of activities. In addition to this, our KS3 curriculum aims to develop leadership/employability skills in young people through PE and sport.

Students are assessed against 3 strands of KPIs in PE: Performance (Practical skills and analysis), Health (Physical conditioning, psychological well-being and lifelong participation) and Leadership (Communication, values and character). In Years 7, 8 and 9 students work towards being “secure” in all 9 of the KPIs. The leadership KPIs are acknowledged with a bronze, silver and gold ‘Fit to Lead’ award which is a recognised award from Sports Leaders UK. Furthermore, students who opt to undertake the responsibility of becoming a “sports leaders” are given the opportunity to achieve a Level 1 Sports Leadership qualification.
