Able and Talented

Northampton Academy has an Able and Talented cohort of students. Pupils in this cohort make up the top 10% of our school population for one of the following reasons:

  • ‘Able’ students are identified using Jesson data; Jesson data is compiled using overall CAT data and is collated in year 7. Those belonging to the ‘Able’ cohort will be Jesson High, sub group M4 and M5 (these are the top two sub groups of Jesson High and on average make up 5-7% of our school population).
  • ‘Talented’ students are identified through teacher referral based on:
    • Classroom performance;
    • Performance in extracurricular activities;
    • Parental recommendation supported by evidence.

Being placed on the Able and Talented register at the Academy opens up a number of extra opportunities for pupils including, external educational visits, talks from guest speakers, extra curricular activities and more, please find some documents attached to this page for parents and pupils of those on the register,
