Athletic Success

On Saturday 11th February Cage (Yr10) represented Rugby & Northampton AC at the Midlands Athletics Championships in Birmingham in Triple Jump and 60m sprint. Despite only starting training with the club within the last 6 months, Cage jumped a phenomenal 13m 45 smashing his personal best and placing him first!

This jump also ranks him Number 1 in the UK for the U17 boys triple jump, a fantastic achievement!

Cage then went on to place 3rd in the U17 boys 60m sprint- all of this competing against other boys a year older than himself!

We wish Cage continued success as he heads into his summer season.

Dear Parent(s)/Carer(s),

As you may be aware, this morning there was a car accident involving one of our Academy 7 students. This occurred before school on Little Billing Way. I would like to reassure you that the Police attended, the student involved was taken to hospital and has now returned home safe and well.

Please talk to your child about the importance of road safety and encourage them to cross the road safely using pelican/zebra crossings wherever possible. There is sound advice for students on the internet at http://talesoftheroad.direct.gov.uk/ and for parents at http://www.bbc.co.uk/health/physical_health/child_development/safety_road.shtml. Thank you for your support and co-operation in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our students.

Members of our Pastoral Support Team are available in school to offer support to any students who have been traumatised by what they saw or know.  The Faith Room will be open at break and lunch tomorrow for any student to drop-in for support. I am sure you will want to join with me in sending thoughts and best wishes for a full and speedy recovery to the student and his family.

May I also take this opportunity to remind you that the Academy closes tomorrow, Friday 10th February at 3.15 p.m. for half term and re-opens on Monday 20th February from 8.00 a.m. We wish you all a relaxing and safe holiday.

Yours faithfully

Northamptonshire played Guilsborough School, Manor School & Sports College and Chenderit School.

It was the first time Northampton Academy has ever taken a Team to the KS4 Boys County Badminton Championships, to compete against the best schools across the county.

A new extra curricular Badminton Club started at the Academy in September and it has proved to be very popular with the students. The school have invested in an experienced Badminton Coach who works with the students on a weekly basis. In addition a new community club has also evolved with several of the school team now playing for the Nighthawks.

The boys made a great team effort and although they were a little disappointed with their performance will learn from the experience. They were a true credit to the school and all should be proud of their achievements.

Northampton School for Boys 86 - 80 Northampton Academy

Lessons were learnt during this match and players were left to reflect on the fact they led at the start of the third quarter only to end the same quarter 12 points down!

The team overall put in a below par performance and few players really played to their full potential. Had this not have been the case and if more consistency, movement on the court and positivity in attack had been produced the result would have most definitely been reversed.

However special praise goes out to George Paul for hitting shots others were missing, Emanuel Burton for showing a relentless passion to win and Mohamed Janneh for pure athleticism.

Thanks also to Yang Lay for his leadership and coaching skills during the match.

Attention all budding authors!

Could you write an amazing story in no more than 500 words?

BBC Radio 2’s Chris Evans is holding a competition for anyone aged between 10 and 13 years to write a story on any subject they like. There’s one catch. It must be no longer than 500 words. Tricky? Have a go, see what you can create.

To enter or for more details, please go to www.bbc.co.uk/radio2 and click on the link 500 words. Entries must be submitted by 1st March, so you have the whole of February to get writing.

Good luck!

Now that we have snow on the ground, we need to remind all students that throwing snowballs on Academy grounds or outside of the Academy gates is not allowed. When it comes to snow, we tell the students....don't throw it, don't eat it, and don't roll around in it.

Thanks
