6th Form Students Visit Parliament
Northampton Academy 6th Form Visit to Parliament – Monday, 22nd June 2009
A group of Sixth Formers from Northampton Academy made a return visit to Parliament on Monday – the day the new Speaker was elected. They were the guests of Baroness Thomas of Winchester who visited the Academy in December to run workshops with students about the workings of the House of Lords.
Students toured the Commons and sat in the Lords’ visitors gallery during questions. The day – which provided many insights into the workings of our democracy – was very interesting. Time inside Parliament was punctuated with lunch in St. James’s Park and time at Trafalgar Square and outside Buckingham Palace.
Lady Thomas has offered a further opportunity for interested students to attend a meeting to discuss the workings of Parliament with peers and officials.
