Year 13 – the results show a considerable improvement from 2007

The 2008 average A2 Level points score per student is 700.7 (2007 = 664.7)

A-E 90.2% (91%-2007)
A+B 27% (24%-2007)
A 14% (13%-2007)

To explain the points score:-

Summer Term 2008

Dear Parents/Carers

Term ends of Wednesday 23rd July at 12.50pm and we hope that your son or daughter has a relaxing summer holiday.

It has been a very exciting term at the Academy. Among the highlights have been a successful trip to the Battlefields in Northern France, the opening of the new David Wilson Construction Centre, together with a display of work done by students in Design Technology and the visit to the Academy of Guin Batten, silver medal winner in rowing at the Sydney Olympics. We have made links with the Tate Modern and Royal College of Music in London and these will grow next year.

We have received the results but at present, we regard them as provisional.

There are, we feel, some inaccuracies and inconsistencies in the marking and we are waiting for the papers to be delivered so that we can cross-check the marks and appeal if necessary.

Public Speaking Competition - Results

Public Speaking Competition - held on 16th July 2008

Pupils in years 7, 8 and 9 prepared a speech during their English lessons and the best were selected by Heads of House to take part in the Competition. Pupils spoke on a variety of topics and standards were very high. Winners were eventually selected and presented with prizes by Canon Margaret Johnson at the Presentation Evening, when parents were invited to hear the winning speeches and were served refreshments by Year 10 Ambassadors.

This is to be the last individual challenge this year. The challenge WILL end on Friday regardless of the number of entries.

Next week, and running until the following Monday, the weekly challenge will be a tutor group one, where each tutor group needs to hand in an entry. It will be tricky though!

As it is also the end of term, there will be a small prize for the winning tutor group in each year.

Wellingborough Orpheus Choir Visits the Academy

Saturday 28th June The Wellingborough Orpheus Choir ( conductor Jonathan Sheldon) visited the Academy for an open rehearsal of Joseph and His Technicolor Dream coat. Members of the community and a small group of Academy staff and students were involved in this "open " sing.

New Construction Course Facility

‘In collaboration with other schools in the Eastern District (Weston Favell, Unity, Thomas Becket, NSG, The Duston School, Caroline Chisholm) we are building an exciting new Construction Training Centre which will open its doors in September 2008. The new Centre is being sponsored by The David Wilson Foundation and supported by the Learning and Skills Council. It will be named the David Wilson Construction Centre.

Sunday Worship BBC Radio 4 Broadcast 8th June 2008 from Northampton Academy

This national broadcast from Northampton Academy featured readings and music led by students from Northampton Academy, students from Lincoln Minster School and members of Emmanuel Church.

The service was broadcast live at 8.10am live on Radio 4.

We are very proud of the hard work put in by students and staff to make this such a memorable and inspirational broadcast.

Dear parents/carers

From Tuesday, 3 June 2008, we are moving to a year-based system to provide more coherent monitoring and intervention for our students. Your son/daughter will still have their personal tutor but will now have a Head of Year. Year 7 students and tutors will be led by Mr J Mason, Year 8 by Mrs A Beesley, Year 9 by Mr D Pulitzer and Year 10 by Mrs S Shurville. The new intake into Year 7 will be led by Mrs D Kennedy. These Heads of Year will move up in September with your son/daughter to the next year group.
