Parent Voice

We have held 3 “Parent Voice” open sessions in the main hall. They have focussed on the following:

  • Literacy, Learning and Progress
  • Improving behaviour and reducing exclusions
  • Feeling safe, happy and developing an anti bullying culture

Attendance has grown with parents supporting our stance on literacy intervention to ensure students can read, write and speak well. They value the 5 reports per year and the regular parent consultation evenings. Positive comments were made about our inclusive approach where we aim to ensure students are safe and happy and that any student persistently disrupting the learning of others is internally excluded and supported to achieve within the Academy – thus avoiding fixed term exclusion.

Our stance on anti bullying was supported although the balance of punishment against mediation and improving relationship “maintenance” skills was discussed with much passion.

    We have been urged to:

  • Continue in our quest for good quality stable staff (parents recognised that recruiting Maths/Scientists for example was very difficult)
  • Really value the power of good relationships with students. This was a very strong “cry” from all parents. You told us that your children will be influenced far more easily by staff who are pleased to be with them, show an interest in them and smile (sometimes!)
  • Reward students if we said we would
  • Be on guard for bullying in classrooms during lessons when students can pass notes, make hurtful comments and take advantage of when a teacher is busy with other students.
