Tate Modern

Links between the Tate Modern and Northampton Academy as a result of the Spring Exhibition

Following discussions with Gerald Porter (Curator for Schools, Tate Modern) on the evening of the Art Exhibition, the Academy was commended for the quality of the students’ work, which he described as very strong. Also, a raft of possibilities has been presented to us.

A partnership between the Tate Modern Art Gallery and Northampton Academy would begin;

  • The Tate Modern has 12 existing relationships with Schools and wishes to expand upon this – we have now asked to be included.
  • Two students from the Academy (years 10/11) would be Ambassadors at the Tate Modern. This is intended as part of the Culture in Schools initiative.
  • Visiting practitioners should visit the Academy
  • When visiting the Gallery students could make use of excellent resources.
  • An artist in residence scheme should be set up at the Academy.
  • The work from the exhibition should be documented and sent to the Tate Modern. One outcome from this could be a curated show at the Tate Modern Gallery.
  • 10 students should attend the Tate Modern Summer School.
