Opening of the New David Wilson Construction Centre and Design and Technology Exhibition- July 9th 2008

Northampton Academy welcomed many parents, students and dignitaries to their open evening of the new David Wilson Construction Centre on what was a very wet Wednesday evening. Although the weather was bleak the turn out was delightful. Everyone was enthused by the talent and craftsmanship displayed throughout the evening. The David Wilson Construction Centre will work in collaboration with other schools in Eastern Northampton including; Weston Favell, Unity, Thomas Becket, NSG, The Duston School, Caroline Chisholm and Moulton College.
The Exhibition featured an array of students’ work that anyone would have been proud of producing including colourful textiles and various product designs. The Hospitality and Catering students produced excellent refreshments for everyone that was displayed and served very professionally. Please see Technology area for more details and pictures.

As the audience entered the hall the current construction students produced an amazing multi-media presentation of them during their construction course at Minet Construction played to the music of we built this city on Rock ‘n’ Roll
Mr Hullah welcomed everyone and hosted the evening by introducing key personnel which included a presentation by Nick Pyke on collaboration and information on the new Diploma courses, Peter Caffry and Paul Quinn from WNDC gave a presentation the future project and new developments initiatives in Northampton, Peter Goss gave a short speech on firstly thanking Karen Betty for her continuous support and guidance with the current construction students. He then celebrated their achievements with Mr Hullah giving out certificates and naming Joshua Poole as best student on the course. The audience were then invited to visit the new construction centre and have a further opportunity to see the Exhibition and receive further refreshments.

We will be offering Level 1 Introductory certificate in basic construction skills which is to provide basic training in construction skills for those seeking employment in the industry. It is suitable for learners with no previous knowledge or experience of the construction industry, including: Plumbing, Brickwork and Carpentry.
The diplomas are; Level 1 Diploma in construction, Level 2 Diploma in construction and an Apprenticeship in construction.
