Leader's in P.E.

Pupils at the Academy are priviliged to be offered the chance of completeing various leadership courses.  These courses are offered across the range of year groups and pupils end up with accredited awards at the end of the course.

Sports Leaders UK Young Leaders Award – Year 8 

The Young Leader Award is a programme of leadership training for young people between the ages of 9 and 13 that promotes them working with younger children, teaching leadership skills through a range of games and activities. 

Sports Leaders UK Level 1 Award in Sports Leadership – Year 11

The award is a nationally recognised qualification that helps people over the age of 14 develop their leadership skills. It’s a practical qualification where candidates learn through doing, rather than through written work. The syllabus fosters generic skills, which can be applied to a variety of different sporting activities as well as contributing to the candidate’s personal and social education.?

The Award in Dance Leadership – Year 11

This Sports Leaders UK accredited award uses dance to help people develop vital skills for life such as planning and organising oneself and others, teamwork, communication and motivation.

Sports Leaders UK Level 2 Award in Community Sports Leadership – Year 12

The award gives people aged 16 and over the skills needed to lead groups in safe sporting and recreational activity. It encourages participants to take responsibility for others, develops organisational and communication skills and instils confidence.  The majority of the course is practical in nature with an emphasis on learning through doing, rather than through written work.

Sports Leaders UK Level 3 Award in Higher Sports Leadership – Year 13

This Award builds on the skills gained through the Community Sports Leader Award to equip people to lead specific community groups such as older people, people with disabilities and primary school children. The award includes units in event management, first aid, sports development and obtaining a coaching award.
