Academy Ethos

Welcome

The Northampton Academy is a high performing centre of learning where students develop a responsible attitude and approach to their own education.

Core Principles

The Core Principles underpin the work of the Academy in its entirety and are the basis of its ethos which guides and informs decision making. While this ethos is rooted in the Christian faith, the beliefs and practices of all faiths will be valued and respected.

  • The Academy is committed to the pursuit of high standards and levels of achievement in all areas of activity. Students will be challenged to achieve through a culture of high expectations.
  • The Academy serves to promote ‘Quality Learning’ and sees this as a core entitlement for all. It will realise the potential for all learners through the development of learner skills and competencies and the use of effective models of Teaching and Learning designed to meet the needs of the individual.
  • The Academy is inclusive. It will celebrate the richness that comes with an Academy Community reflective of society’s cultural diversity. It will support any individual in the Academy who experiences obstacles to the realisation of their potential through strategies appropriate to their needs.
  • The Academy seeks to promote a sense of responsibility within each individual. At one level this will be a responsibility for self, where students will be expected to develop greater responsibility for their own learning as well as their health and well-being. At another level, students will be challenged to demonstrate responsibility towards others, in the local community and worldwide, along with responsible attitudes to the environment in general. In this way, the Academy will seek to generate feelings of Global Citizenship within all learners.
  • The Academy is part of the federation of schools promoted by the Church Schools Company (CSCo). It shares with the company its objectives for all pupils:
    • To become a balanced, articulate person with the intellectual freedom to be creative.
    • The confidence to initiate.
    • The resilience to cope with adversity.
