All students remain on the Academy site at lunchtime. They may choose to have a meal in the canteen where a variety of hot/cold meals/snacks is served, or bring a packed lunch. All students should eat in the dining hall. No student should leave the site and if they do so, the staff cannot accept responsibility for them.
Punctuality
There is a 'late' procedure followed in school. All students who arrive late, for whatever reason, must sign in on arrival at school. If students are late without good cause and written reason from their parents/guardians, they will be given a 10-minute detention to be served that day. After three late detentions, students are given a 30-minute detention. You will be notified of this in advance. If poor punctuality persists the matter will be taken further by meeting with parents/guardian and /or referral to the Education Welfare Officer for investigation and intervention.
Health
It should be the exception rather than the rule for medicines to be brought into school. It is normally expected that parents administer medicine to their children. Parents should be advised to request that GPs be asked to prescribe in a way, which avoids the need for medicines to be taken onto school premises.
If your child uses an inhaler, please ensure that they carry one at all times. A spare, clearly marked with your child's name, should be stored with our School Nurse for emergency use. If a child has an allergy to any food, please make sure the academy is aware of this. This is especially important if an Epipen is carried. A "medicalert" bracelet or necklace carrying information regarding the allergy is allowed, but please ensure that the academy is informed.
Communication
Parents and guardians are encouraged to communicate with us. Education is a PARTNERSHIP. If we are to do the best for our students, we need to give each other important information. You can use the student planner for this purpose.
Students will regularly receive newsletters and other information from school. Please check pockets and bags regularly; alternatively, CONTACT US!
There will be at least one School Report available each year. Please endeavour to attend ALL PARENTS' EVENINGS in the interest of your child. Their Group Tutor and Head of House, with whom they will stay for five years, will monitor students regularly.
They will collect Records of Achievement to be placed in their National Record of Achievement file when they leave. All colleges and most employers require this.
