The House System
Houses
Northampton Academy is organised into Houses. There are five houses:
Your son/daughter will be placed into one of these houses.
The house system exists to promote the values of the Academy – “the best in everyone”. Each house has it’s own distinctive influence and promotes particular values and attributes.
Each house is named after prominent and influential people who have lived and worked in Northampton. They are good role models for every student. Click on the links to find out more about each house.
Through the house point system we praise and recognise each student. Points are recorded in student planners and certificates and vouchers presented to students in house and year group assemblies.
We promote healthy competition amongst students. The House Cup was won by Dryden House in 2008 and can be seen in the foyer of the Academy. Competition was close with the final result not known until the last day of term.
We believe that praise and (small) rewards are vital in encouraging young people to learn and behave well as they progress toward adulthood.
All staff aim to award 4 house points per lesson. Subject Programme leaders, Heads of Year and the new Heads of house have promoted much of this work. Heads of House have used assemblies to award weekly chocolate prizes to the top form group (most house points in last week), developed more engagement through competitions such as the Public Speaking event in the summer term and Sports Day as we progressed to the award of the house cup.
We aim to develop the praise, reward and house system during 2008/9 by providing opportunities for students to participate in new activities, for their own development and to gain house points for themselves and their house.
In this way we hope that your son or daughter appreciates the value of doing their best for themselves and the team – “team Academy”.
