Breakfast with a Professional - NGH Healthcare

Categories: Careers & Enterprise, Featured

Northampton Academy Careers Department welcomed a team of four NHS Healthcare professionals to the first of this year’s “Breakfast with a Professional” programme.

Lisa Gammon who is a Higher Apprenticeships and Preceptorship Project Lead, led the session and shared her career journey with Sixth Form students. Lisa asked the students for their own aspirations and was very impressed by their chosen healthcare and medical pathways. She advised them of the range of options available to them within Healthcare but also reassured students who had not yet made a decision or were unsure of their next step, that they still have time to find their area of interest.

Verity Duff then expanded on the variety of roles she had undertaken in her 15 years within the NHS, talking of how learning and studying was an important and integral part of all these different roles and her personal development.

Kelly Coles (Community Nurse) spoke of her career path, the experiences undertaken during her studying, training and her current role as a Community Nurse.

Both Verity and Kelly spoke of new roles undertaken recently, as well as discussing their schools and colleges outreach work. Every member of the team was keen to share the positive impact of how working in Healthcare had been good for their lifestyles, especially when factoring in childcare commitments. They were all able to fit working and studying around family commitments.

Following this, the visitor closest in age to many of our students, Lilly-May Towle (Cadet), was keen to share her own career choices and the factors she considered in advance. She is currently undertaking an apprenticeship in Nursing Level 4. This type of advice is particularly useful to students who may be considering similar routes.

Thank you to all our visitors for their time and commitment to Northampton Academy, ensuring students receive measured and information careers advice and guidance.
