On Tuesday, 28th March, we were delighted to welcome Mo Bobat to Northampton Academy.

Mo, who is the England Cricket Board Performance Director, addressed the Elite Sport, Nucleus STEM and other interested students during a 1-hour compelling presentation to the full-house Lecture Theatre.

After explaining the different responsibilities of his all-encompassing role, he highlighted just how many opportunities there are in Professional Sports today, namely: Coaching, Performance Analysis, Sports Science and Medicine.

Having had a passion for cricket from a very early age, he explained how he has always been inspired by leaders across many sports, including his beloved Arsenal (with Tony Adams, Ian Wright et al.)!

Mo’s experiences have seen him witness many great performers in the heat of the battle, and he explained that they all seem to have an authenticity which is closely aligned with their character, of being able to express themselves under pressure.  The current England team are an example of this and has seemingly lost the fear of failure and focused purely on their super strengths.

After answering questions from the floor, he closed with some inspirational quotes, most strikingly...

“ If you want something enough, you’ll find a way of achieving it… otherwise, you’ll find an excuse”.
