Jubilee Tree Planting

Our ceremonial tree-planting took place on the eve of the Queen’s birthday, 20th April 2012 to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee.  The sapling, planted by the local MP, Michael Ellis, was planted in front of the Academy as a symbol of this historic event.  Michael George, chair of Governors, was also present, as was the Principal, Mrs Hill, and Headteachers from local primary schools: Julia Kedwards (Ecton Brook), Debbie Cushing (St. Andrew’s), Michael Snelson (Rectory Farm), Erica Holt (Woodvale), Leigh Wolmarans (Lings) and Ceri Cook (Lumbertubs).  Northampton Academy was well represented by the Head Boy and Head Girl, accompanied by members of the student council from all years and a number of members of staff.   Michael Ellis reminded us that we plant trees for the future and, in the case of oak trees, for the next generation as they can live for 600 – 700 years.  Although much of April has been characterised by rain, we were lucky that the sun shone for the ceremony.  A number of other smaller trees have been planted on the bank of the stream at the rear of the school.  We look forward to these developing to provide summer shade in the future.
