At just 16 years old, Tom Davies is a remarkable young leader and an inspiration to staff and students alike.

His ambition, dedication and enthusiasm for sport drive him to achieve and succeed in everything he does (sport and academia). He is not satisfied with being just a good all round sports person; he thrives on sharing his passion, leadership skills, qualities and sport specific knowledge and expertise with others in school and in the wider community.

As a result of Tom’s fantastic commitment he recently won the Northampton Leisure Trust Young Leaders Award. Tom was then shortlisted for the Northamptonshire Sport Awards in November where he won the county Young Leader of the Year title as well - he was up against some great young leaders from across the county.

From the county awards Tom's nomination form was put forward to the BBC East Sports Awards and amazingly he has been shortlisted for the'Young Unsung Hero Award' (some of the award categories at the event will then go on for national shortlisting and people end up at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards!)

The awards ceremony takes place on Tuesday 4th December at Bedford University. We will keep you posted on how Tom gets on……

These results follow last week’s excellent A Level results when a quarter of entries achieved A* and A grades.

Students at Northampton Academy are today celebrating the success of their Sixth Form as they receive their A Level grades.

Every student who has applied to university has got the grades needed for a place. 17% will be going to prestigious Russell Group universities and one student, Calin Cauacean, is today celebrating getting a place at Cambridge University to study Natural Sciences. Another, Shiv Datta is celebrating becoming the academy’s first student to go on to study medicine. He has got a place at Queen Mary’s College, University of London.

Anne Hill, Principal of Northampton Academy, said:

“When we opened as an academy we were very keen to establish a thriving and successful Sixth Form. Today’s results show yet again that this approach has paid off. I would like to congratulate all our Sixth Form students who are celebrating today and thank our staff for their continued hard work. Our Sixth Form is a marvelous place for our students to spend their final two years at school; developing the skills and achieving the grades that will set them on the course for success as adults”

“It is particularly pleasing that today we are celebrating Calin’s success in getting in to Cambridge. He is our second student to achieve this in three years and such success filters down to inspire our younger children. Likewise, we are delighted that Shiv has been accepted to read medicine at Queen Mary’s College, London and that every student who applied for university has got a place.

Michael George, Chair of the academy’s Local Governing Body added his congratulations:

“Today’s results give our students the qualifications they need to go to university and begin their adult lives with the benefits of a sound education behind them. I am delighted not only for each of them but for all the teachers and staff at the Academy who work so closely with our Sixth Formers to ensure they reach their potential as learners. They are all a credit to the academy and to Northampton.”
