Rugby Festival and 7s Tournament

Categories: Latest Academy News, Sport, Featured

The Under 13s Rugby Team attended two events recently, putting their weeks of hard practice into action.

On Wednesday 6th March, 10 of the squad attended the latest CBRE All Schools Festival at the Northampton Casuals RFC. The team performed brilliantly with a mix of both club and more inexperienced players, winning the first two fixtures at a canter.

RFU coach Ollie Joisce commented on how far the team have come in the last two years, highlighted by the performances of props Loui K and Preston S, and the audacity of Luke N’s crossfield kick to Ben P for a try, which had been rehearsed on the training field many times.

The following day Thursday 7th March, the team with a few changes, travelled to Franklins Gardens to attend the Redrow Northampton Saints Annual Rugby 7s competition. This was an event that brought together some of the top rugby schools in the area with the highly regarded NSB and Wellingborough School in attendance. The boys battled hard but struggled to find consistency and the try line in the first two games, finishing third in their pool and going into the plate competition despite a chip and case try for Malachi M against the formidable Wellingborough team.

The second half of the day was a total role reversal for the team with the try line being crossed on numerous occasions, eleven in two games to be precise, with only a single try being conceded. This led to a 25-0 win over Wootton Park and the result of our season so far, a 20-5 over Moulton School. Every single player did Northampton Academy proud displaying our core values in particular, determination to come back from a difficult start to the day.

The boys are now looking forward to getting back to the training field and preparing for the next game of their successful season.
