Year 11 Prefect, Mia has been very demonstrating our core values of ‘Determination and Ambition’ by winning her category in the Northamptonshire 5K Series,  part of the Northamptonshire Sport ‘Get Active’ initiative.

Mia took part in five races across the whole of Northamptonshire between April 22nd and September 7th and was delighted to win the female U17 category in all five races!

Overjoyed Mia enthused, “This was such an amazing experience and I’m definitely signing up for next year’s series. I have been running for about 5 years now, inspired by my dad who is also a keen runner. I have trained really hard, working step-by-step, determined to achieve my goal. I never believed I would win the whole series. Some races were tougher than others, especially during the 35 degree summer heatwave.”

Mia is proud to show off her medals from each race which cleverly fit together to make a circle.

Mia’s Race Summary:

Sunday, April 22nd – Irchester Country Park

"Lots of rain the day before meant that this was a very muddy race and we had to run in single file. There were numerous holes to watch out for too."

  • First female in the U17 category
  • 9th female overall
  • Total runners – 310

Wednesday, May 16th – Salcey Forest

"This is the reason why I love running cross-country, being able to take in the beautiful scenery whilst running."

  • First female in U17 category
  • 11th female overall
  • Total runners – 278

Friday, June 29th – Brixworth

"During the 35-degree heatwave, this was a very tricky run. However, I believed in myself and was determined to keep on running. This was by far the hardest for me, with the combination of the heat and numerous steep hills."

  • First female in U17 category
  • 4th female overall
  • Total runners – 226

Wednesday, July 18th  – Delapre Abbey

"I did this race last year, so I knew as soon as I saw it on the list that I was going to love it."

  • First female in the U17 category
  • 5th female overall
  • Total runners – 259

Wednesday, September 7th – Deene Park

"After a long 60-minute drive to Deene Park in Corby, we arrived at an unexpected ‘Glastonbury’ type atmosphere. Running along to background music felt amazing, even though I had to physically stop running because a herd of sheep obstructed the way and then decided to follow everyone around the field!"

  • First female in the U17 category
  • 6th female overall
  • Total runners – 190
