Key Stage 4 and 5 Summary
The curriculum at KS4 is designed to give students a taste of business in the real and simulated world. We aim to give students practical experience of designing and marketing their own products and business ideas in one of the components – Planning for and Pitching an Enterprise Activity. They will develop communication skills, listening skills and team working skills through a range of activities and challenges of differing levels. All students will have access to computers to help develop their research and presentation skills.
At Northampton Academy we offer the BTEC Tech Award in Enterprise for students in year 10 and 11.
In years 12 and 13 pupils can study A Level Business Studies or BTEC National Extended Cert (1 A Level). See Sixth Form Courses for further information >>>. A Level courses are 100% exam based. However, the BTEC courses at both key stages allow pupils to complete coursework units which are more practical and research based as well as exams (1 at KS4 and 2 at KS5).
Business gives pupils an awareness of the world of work and the business world. Students will study a range of topics ranging from marketing, customer service, human resources and finance. Students will use real life case studies to see how the theory works in the real world.
The study of business raises pupil awareness of current issues and world events. It opens the door to further study at University or for further training in the world of work.
