Key Stage 3 Curriculum Summary
Design Technology is a creative and practical subject. Which offers the opportunity for students to express themselves and problem solve in a range of different tasks, this helps to develop their creative and practical expertise.
In KS3 we look to develop and strengthen students’ knowledge and understanding of working with a range of materials and media.
We also look to develop their appreciation of the work of others, which includes looking at different design movements such as Memphis design.
The subject offers students the opportunity to express and develop their creativity and imagination during designing and making activities of the subject
Skills that are covered are spilt into 3 categories – Design – Make - Evaluate

Yr 8
- Textiles – Post card inspired project
- Resistant Materials – Picture frame project linked to the textiles post card project
- Food – Healthy eating
Yr 9
- Textiles – E-Textiles Monster project with electronics
- Resistant Materials – Memphis inspired lighting
- Food – Food preparation and nutrition – How food is sourced
In Years 8 and 9 students work towards being “secure” in all of the KPIs.
