The Year 9 Options Evening will consist of an opportunity to visit each subject teacher in the Sports Hall to discuss their subjects in detail. By exploring all curriculum subjects available, you will be more equipped to make your final option choices.
There will be a presentation to be held in the Assembly Hall at 5.30pm and an opportunity to meet and discuss options with the senior leadership team in the canteen area.
In order to achieve a successful ‘Options Evening’ there are several points to consider:
Students - What should I do prior to the night?
- Re-read your latest school report. This provides the best picture of your present progression in school. If it has been misplaced, don’t worry, a replacement can be provided on the evening. To obtain a replacement report prior to the evening, please speak to your Form Tutor.
- Talk to your parents about each subject and think about what you can do to develop your skills in each curriculum area. Any questions or queries can be the start of the conversation with the teacher.
Students - What questions should I ask the teacher?
-
Ask questions. This is your opportunity to discover more about each subject.
-
Behaviour for Learning – If this is 3 or lower on the report, this could provide a focus.
-
Homework – How often should you expect it? What will it involve?
-
Grades and Progress – Is there is a difference between expected and attained? Are you making enough progress to achieve your target grade?
-
Effort – If this is a 3 or lower on your report you will need to discuss ideas on how to improve attitudes to learning?
