Welcome to Northampton Academy

Year 6-7 Transition

Welcome to Northampton Academy!

At Northampton Academy, we work hard to provide a caring and secure bridge between Years 6 and 7, making the transition from Primary to Secondary a positive and fulfilling experience. Your child will have every opportunity to reach aspirational goals and targets in a secure and caring environment that pays close attention to social and emotional needs and development.

Year 7 is both a fun and challenging year where students will develop key life skills in a community that maintains high expectations of behaviour and conduct and continually drives our core values of Respect, Determination, Ambition, Tolerance and Integrity.

Transition can be a time of many changes, including:

  • A new and bigger school-working environment
  • Changes in teachers
  • New friendship groups
  • Being around older students
  • Movement around the school
  • New subject areas

In Year 7, we have minimised these changes by ensuring our students feel safe and confident in their first year. As a result, students have expressed feeling comfortable and happy in their learning environment, enabling them to progress and improve achievement.

It is vital that each child knows who to turn to if they need someone to talk to. To this end, students will be assigned a Form Tutor, who will be with them from transition day. In addition, your child will also have a Learning Manager who is solely dedicated to the year group. The Learning Manager is a hugely supportive and influential staff member, an ever-visible, caring, and supportive addition that you and your child will quickly become familiar with.

We have very high standards of courtesy, conduct and behaviour.  We consistently strive to get the best out of our students by focusing on positive conduct; this enables a strict but structured learning environment that provides a successful transition for the students.

This welcome pack provides all the information you need before September; please note the important dates for your diary on the next page.

Please use our online portal, Applicaa, to provide us with all the required information about your child. You will receive a separate email from Applicaa, containing your login details.

We look forward to working in partnership with you and your child here at the Academy.
