Our youngest and oldest students received visits from Amber Page, Schools and Colleges Recruitment Officer for De Montfort University in Leicester.

Year 7 - Considering Univerity

Amber presented Year 7 students with an interactive assembly, concentrating on how a positive attitude to learning can lead them to consider studying for a degree at university. Amber took our students through the truths and misconceptions of studying a degree, ensuring that our students are aware of the fantastic opportunities in store for them. It’s not just about studying; there are skills to develop through volunteering, joining societies, travelling and meeting new people. It’s the start of a journey which we hope students will continue to learn more about throughout their time with us.

Year 8 –  Introduction to University

In an assembly similar to the one presented to Year 7 students, Amber addressed our Year 8 students, elaborating on the benefits of university and of gaining a Level 6 (Degree) qualification. Focusing on the wide range of courses available, the societies to be explored and the message that university is for everyone willing to work hard to achieve, Amber engaged our students throughout the session.

Year 13 - What Happens Next?

Amber spoke to students on the subject of UCAS university applications and ‘What Happens Next?’.  Year 13 students who have applied to university will now have confirmed their choices. Amber asked students to consider their next steps in preparing to make the transition from Sixth Form to Higher Education; covering everything from A Level results day to what to take to university.

Year 13 – ‘Don’t Blow the Budget’

Amber returned to introduce our Year 13 students to the concept of budgeting as part of their preparation for life at university and employment. Consideration when balancing life’s essentials against ‘luxury’ items can be tricky. Students were asked to reflect upon what is most important to them and received advice on how to make ends meet by applying for discount cards, meal planning and opting for own label brands. We hope that this workshop has provided students with the forethought required for them to remain solvent throughout the next year and beyond!
