Latest Library News What's On - May!
Kicking off in early May, the library is celebrating World Laughter Day with a display of our funniest books and a list of activity ideas for students to celebrate. The list includes writing jokes, funny stories and poetry, drawing cartoons and memes, as well as a fun idea for laughter yoga. Students can pick an activity to do in their free time and share their results and experiences with the librarians or teachers across the school. Humour is a great way to foster community spirit in our school. World Laughter Day is celebrated on May 4th this year!
Our library calendar highlights May 12th as National Limerick Day, a whimsical celebration of wit and rhyme that tickles our funny bones annually. Whether you're a seasoned wordsmith or simply enjoy a good laugh, this day is dedicated to the playful art of crafting limericks and revelling in their delightful absurdity. The library offers guidance on how to write a limerick and will award any good limerick students hand in. Check out our National Limerick Day display in our Literature Corner, where students can also read the Young Writers' poetry and short story collections, which feature our students' published writing from over the years.
Finally, at the end of the month, we are going to be focusing on a list of environmental celebrations. Starting with Endangered Species Day on May 16th, we are also celebrating World Bee Day on May 20th, The International Day for Biological Diversity on May 22nd and World Turtle Day on May 23rd. Students can already find resources online on our library portal on the Earth Day Research Club dashboard, where we have links to books, quizzes and educational websites like Usborne Quicklinks. At the end of May, there will also be a display for these important dates, featuring our ecology books and fiction about nature and animals.
