During May half term, students had the opportunity to travel to Cologne, to visit the Ernst Mach Gymnasium, our German partner school. This was the second leg of the German Exchange visits in which we hosted the students from Germany in March.
On the first day, our students received a warm welcome from the Principal, and both schools exchanged pennants to reaffirm the partnership that had been formed. Students and teachers were taken into lessons and given tours of the school before completing a project they had been working on, which was a video campaign against discrimination of all forms using our mantra 'Our Differences Unite Us'. Both schools spent time getting to know each other and had the opportunity to visit some points of interest, including Cologne Cathedral and a Chocolate Museum. They then enjoyed a cable car ride and a boat trip over the River Rhine.
It was an incredible opportunity for both sets of students, and one student said: “It was a great experience, and I will value what I have learnt and seen in Germany, especially going out with my exchange partner. I have made a friend for life.”
Northampton Academy would like to thank the UK-German Connection for their incredible generosity in making this dream become a reality. Through their grant, the Academy was able to broaden the horizons of students who might never would have had that opportunity.
