Northampton Academy holds a tradition of fundraising for good causes and today was no different – student councillors persuaded the Principal, Mr Parnell, to allow them to spray his hair in rainbow colours.
When asked how they came up with the idea, students said:
“We wanted to raise some money for this charity, which is close to our hearts, and we thought the colours would really suit Mr Parnell.”
Before the event took place, Mr Parnell was looking a bit worried, saying:
“It’s not so much the hair spraying I’m worried about, it’s the rest of the day. I have a number of important meetings later.”
In addition to this, Northampton Academy is supporting Children in Need by holding a whole school Mufti Day. All students and staff have arrived at school in their own clothes in exchange for a £1 donation. Students are always very excited to come to school without their uniform, and they love to see the staff in their ‘normal clothes’. The school expects to raise over £1000 from this event and a cake sale, which has also been organised by the School Council.
Other fundraising within the school at the moment is Operation Christmas Child, which is run by the Sixth Form Leadership Team. As part of this, students across the school have filled shoe boxes with toys, books, toiletries and other such items. So far they have filled 150 boxes to be sent out internationally to children of all ages.
Northampton Academy also supports a number of other charities such as Christians Against Poverty, for whom students and staff are doing a ‘Reverse Advent Calendar’ – donating food items to the most needy in the local area. Local food banks will be receiving proceeds from a raffle held at our Christmas Cracker music and drama production in December.
