Library - Reading at Home

Library and all things books!

Here are some ideas of how you can still be reading or listening to books despite not having access to our lovely library.

Please check here regularly for more reading suggestions, including our first themed Recommended Reads, starting with Feel Good Fiction. There’s some suggestions there for the grown-ups too!

There has been some fantastic reading taking place at home. There were 74 Accelerated Reader quizzes taken over the Easter break, and students read 2,835,359 words in just two weeks. Make sure you stick to your daily DEAR time and read for at least 20 minutes every day. Don’t worry about the levels of books or even if they have quizzes, just keep reading.

Comic books, news articles, listening to audiobooks all count! Don’t forget to read aloud to younger (or older) brothers and sisters too. Keep an eye out for our new recommended reading lists, starting next week.

Congratulations to Year 8 student Ashiki, on reading over 3 million words with Accelerated Reader so far this academic year. Year 7 students Georgia and Patryk have both also joined our multi-millionaires club, both having read over 2 million words. Awesome work!

Dont forget to take your Accelerated Reader Quiz >>>

If you are a member of Northamptonshire Public Libraries you can access e-book services provided by BorrowBox using their library card. Non-members can join for free on-line as a virtual member, but you need to be 16+ so will need an adult to do this on your behalf.

Click here to visit the Library Plus website >>>.

Did you know that you can download the Kindle App for FREE? Just go to Amazon Kindle Apps on your PC or laptop, or download to your smartphone or tablet via the app store. There are lots of books to purchase for as little as 99p and many available to download free, especially classics. Amazon Prime members can read selected books for free also. Don’t worry about books having quizzes, although that’s a bonus, just enjoy exploring new worlds, going on adventure or dipping into other people’s lives.

While schools remain closed, Amazon has also made a selection of full-length audiobooks available, free to listen to via a web browser (PC, Mac or Smartphone), try it! Audible is also offering free audiobooks here >>>

You can quiz on these books too if quizzes are available.
