We were delighted to welcome songwriter Joel Foster to Northampton Academy, where he worked with our Spotlight Cohort to provide an insight into the world of music and songwriting.
Originally from the historic brewing town of Burton upon Trent, Joel has been passionate about music from an early age. In 2022, he made the bold decision to step away from full-time work to fully pursue his ambition of becoming a professional music artist.
During his visit, Joel shared his personal journey and gave students a behind-the-scenes look at the songwriting process. He explored how songs are created from initial ideas through to finished pieces, as well as how artists can add their own unique style to existing music.
Students then had the exciting opportunity to work collaboratively in groups to begin creating their own original songs. Guided by Joel, they explored different musical ideas, experimented with styles, and developed the foundations of their own compositions.
This was a fantastic experience for our students, allowing them to develop their creativity, build confidence, and gain valuable insight into the music industry.
