All Year 12 students attended the UCAS Discovery Day at the NEC on Monday 22 June. The event provided a fantastic opportunity for students to meet representatives from a wide range of universities, all under one roof.
In addition to university exhibitors, there were apprenticeship providers from sectors including accounting, digital technology and financial auditing, as well as representatives from the Army and the Royal Navy. This gave students valuable insight into the variety of pathways available to them after sixth form.
Students found the trip extremely beneficial, as it enabled them to speak directly with university representatives and gain a better understanding of courses, entry requirements and campus life. Many commented that the experience helped them narrow down their options and make more informed decisions about their future.
Keegan said that he found the event particularly useful. He was able to speak with representatives from all the universities he is currently considering, asking questions about courses, entry requirements and what options might be available if he did not achieve his predicted grades. During the day, he visited stands from King's College London, the University of Nottingham, the University of Warwick, the University of Manchester, the University of Birmingham and Imperial College London.
Having had the opportunity to speak with staff at each institution, Keegan now feels much more confident about his choices and has narrowed his list to his final five university options.
