This term, students from Year 7 and Year 10 took part in our exciting Carnegie Medal Shadowing programme.
The Carnegie Medal is one of the UK's most prestigious children's book awards, celebrating outstanding writing for young people. As part of the shadowing scheme, our students read a selection of the shortlisted titles and met each Wednesday during DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) time to discuss their thoughts and share their opinions.
The group showed fantastic enthusiasm and commitment throughout the programme. They explored different genres, discussed characters and themes, and shared their views on what made each book stand out. Students also wrote book reviews, sharing their thoughts with other shadowing groups across the country.
At the end of the programme, students received certificates to recognise their dedication and participation. They also gave very positive feedback for the experience, saying how much they enjoyed discovering new authors, talking about books with others, and being part of a national reading initiative.
We're incredibly proud of everyone who took part. Well done to all our Carnegie Shadowers 2026!
