At the beginning of October, two teams of Silver DofE students set out for their assessed expedition in the Peak District.
The girls’ team were absolutely outstanding throughout the expedition and were described by our leaders as one of the best Silver teams they had seen. They worked exceptionally well together, navigating their route with only minor difficulties, supporting one another throughout, and working responsibly at the campsites. They also demonstrated an excellent understanding of the DofE ethos by leaving no trace.
The boys’ team also showed great determination and teamwork. After some navigational challenges on the first day, which left one of our leaders spending a couple of very chilly hours on a hillside, they successfully completed their assessed expedition. Their progress over the following two days was particularly impressive, with significant improvements in both their navigation and teamwork on days two and three.
Both teams were a real credit to the academy. They respected the environment, left no trace of their passing, and were consistently polite and courteous to members of the public they encountered along the way.
Expeditions like these remind us why we are so proud to offer the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at the academy. It is fantastic to see our students developing their independence, resilience and teamwork, while representing the academy so positively.
