Sports Leaders Training Programme

Categories: News, Sport, Featured

With restrictions around outdoor sport now lifted, we were delighted to restart our Sports Leaders Training programme.

We welcomed Tom Stevenson from Northampton Tennis4all to deliver some basic Tennis leaders training to Year 10 Leaders, alongside officials training for an upcoming primary competition.

The session began with a theoretical introduction to Tennis, quizzing the students on their prior knowledge. The students then moved on to look at essential tennis warm-ups, leading each other through varying small game activities building up the basic fundamental movement skills necessary for the sport.

It was fantastic to see our Sports Leaders in action again. Their natural skills came flooding back, and they relished the opportunity to work as a leadership team.

With the students tasked with officiating at the Year 3 & 4 Primary Tennis tournament in a few weeks, the leaders were allowed to practice their umpiring and scoring skills under the expert eye of Tom. It was amazing to see them engaging so positively, asking questions and building on their knowledge base. Tom was very complimentary about the leaders' attitude and efforts and rewarded them with a 'Tennis Leaders T shirt' to wear for the competition event.
We look forward to seeing them in action within the community in a few weeks.
