Latest Library News What's On - June!
This Pride Month, our library is once again putting together a display of popular LGBTQIA+ fiction. This time, we're also adding limited-edition Pride-themed bookmarks designed by students from the Diversity Club. The librarians selected 32 designs that were printed, and students can obtain them for free from our Pride display. The librarians' favourite was a bookmark featuring the words: "Read books today and learn something new, discover people, yourself and others," as it represents what reading is all about during Pride Month and throughout the year.
June 12th is Empathy Day! This Thursday, another library pop-up event will be held at the school canteen. This time, the librarians will bring books from the Read for Empathy Collection. The 2025 collection features novels, graphic novels, verse novels, information books, and poetry books. In preparation for this event, the library will be celebrating the Empathy Festival with various activities from the Empathy Lab charity, including a display of all the book blurbs from the 2025 collection. Books are crucial for developing empathy skills in children, and our library celebrates this with a great collection of books every year.
Following on from that, we will be featuring a display celebrating the June 13th A Day of Welcome, followed by June 16th to 22nd Refugee Week – featuring posters and information resources to support students understanding of the diversity of refugee experiences, supported by some of our best refugee fiction books, some of which have recently been read by our Carnegie Medal for Writing Shadowing NA Book Club. Visit the library to learn more and get inspired to read great books through book reviews and selected quotes!
