Northampton Academy is celebrating a Year 13 student who has been recognised for their excellence by winning an award at United Learning’s Best in Everyone Awards.
Sarah was awarded the secondary school ‘Character’ prize, out of nominees from across the country, for her positive contributions within the school and beyond. For the past four years, Sarah has led our school’s fundraising efforts, organising three major charity events each year and helping raise over £6000 for Street Child, Hope Centre for the Homeless and Cynthia Spencer Hospice.
As one of our Head People, she has been a driving force in ensuring that students' voices are heard and acted upon, advocating for meaningful change and encouraging others to contribute positively to the school community. Her work towards our school has contributed to Northampton Academy being awarded the prestigious Quality Mark – School of Excellence for Inclusion.
Her efforts to drive meaningful change have extended beyond our local community, helping the school support organisations such as Build Africa in their efforts to construct new classrooms for a primary school in Kenya.
Held annually since 2013, the Best in Everyone Awards celebrate the achievements of students and staff at the Group’s schools across the country. Ahead of our own in-school awards ceremony here at Northampton Academy, which highlights our students’ outstanding academic or extracurricular achievements, we nominated Sarah for the National Awards. Selected out of an impressive field of candidates, Sarah was invited to receive her award at the prestigious ceremony, which this year was held at Oxford Town Hall.
On winning her award, Sarah said:
“I’m truly honoured to receive this year’s Best in Everyone Award for Character across the entire United Learning Trust. Northampton Academy has been so much more than just a school, it’s been a place where I’ve grown, been challenged, and developed both my character and my confidence. Opportunities like becoming Head Girl and co-founding the Junior Inclusion Team have shaped me in ways I’ll always be grateful for. These experiences, and so many others, have helped me become the person I am today.
“I couldn’t have done it without the support of my peers and the incredible community here, so I dedicate this award to all of them. Thank you again, I’m genuinely grateful and humbled.”
Mr Jones said:
“We are very proud of Sarah on her award, which is truly deserved. As well as being a fantastic student, her dedication to making our school, local community and the world a better place exemplifies the values we strive for as a school. It has been fantastic to see Sarah’s growth over the course of her time at Northampton Academy, and I hope she takes pride in this achievement.”
