D-CYPHR Schools Research Project

Categories: Latest Academy News, Featured

This term, Northampton Academy are supporting D-CYPHR, an exciting and important project for children and young people aged 0-15 to help health research.

You can join in here: https://bioresource.nihr.ac.uk/dcyphr/

Our school is supporting this project because we know just how many of our own pupils, staff and parents/carers are having to deal with health conditions that this project may help pioneer new approaches to treat and overcome.

About the DNA, Children + Young People’s Health Resource (D-CYPHR):

Your child can be a hero by unleashing the superpower they have in their DNA. It contains information that could transform the lives of millions of children and young people who need treatment and care.

As parents and carers, we all see the amazing potential in our children. They have the power to make us laugh or cry, to inspire us to do more. But, while they might not be stopping a meteor strike or foiling a bank robbery any time soon, they do have the power to change the world for the better right now just by spitting into a tube.

Together with the NHS, the NIHR BioResource is creating a nationwide movement to unlock the power of our children’s DNA. By getting involved your child can help discover new treatments and create better care – everything from better understanding mental health to combatting diabetes. The answers are waiting for us, we just need some heroes to help us find them.

Joining D-CYPHR can be done from home:

  • Express your interest online
  • Sign the consent forms
  • Complete a short health and lifestyle questionnaire
  • Child donates a saliva (spit) sample in a tube sent in the post
  • You can withdraw at any time

Once you have joined, families can then help public health related studies.
These are urgently needed as there are over 1.7 million children with chronic health conditions in England alone.

To express interest or find out more, please visit the D-CYPHR website: https://bioresource.nihr.ac.uk/dcyphr/

Be a hero and help health research by talking about it, learning about it and joining in!
